Abstract submission for the RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference on 3-6 October 2012. The Remote and Rural Implementation group (RRIG) Scotland, highlighted the sustainability of services and workforce in remote Community Hospitals as a priority issue. The most pressing of these reasons centred on the recruitment, education, skill acquisition and maintenance, appraisal and revalidation of General Practitioners (GPs) providing acute medical care in remote Community Hospital settings across Scotland. The Remote and Rural Healthcare Educational Alliance (RRHEAL)
co-ordinated work identifying affordable, accessible and sustainable education pathways supporting Rural Practitioners providing care in acute settings.
