In order to further support the Pertussis immunisation programme NHS Education for Scotland in partnership with Health Protection Scotland has revised it’sresources for registered healthcare practitioners. These can be found below and include training slides (and accompanying notes) and a ‘question and answer’ resource.

Please note:  These educational resources continue to be updated as required to support this programme but do not replace the clinical judgement of practitioners. Practitioners should refer to the Public Health England Green Book Chapter when administering the vaccine.

Prenatal Pertussis (Whooping Cough) – Vaccine change from 1 July 2024

From 1 July 2024, ADACEL® (Tdap) a vaccine without Inactivated Polio Virus (IPV), replaces Boostrix-IPV® (dTaP/IPV) for the pertussis vaccination in pregnancy programme. Pertussis continues to circulate in Scotland therefore the immunisation of pregnant women continues to be extremely important.

The updated Green Book Chapter 24 was published, 28th June 2024.

Note: NHS Boards will have local mechanisms and governance arrangements that they will apply to decision making in relation to vaccination. Vaccinators should ensure that they are adhering to local educational and clinical governance arrangements.
