NHS Lanarkshire’s waiting time commitment is 12 weeks from referral to treatment (RTT), in line with The Scottish Government guarantee. ‘Ready to Act: A Transformational Plan for AHPs’ has identified five ambitions to improve outcomes and well-being for children, young people and their families, with a significant focus on early intervention, engagement and prevention. Processes in Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) in Airdrie, an area of high multiple deprivation, were not capable of meeting the waiting time target reliably and posed a risk to service users. This project aimed to reduce waiting times by improving processes for patients accessing the SLT system for the first time in keeping with ‘Ready to Act’ ambitions. Aim: RTT time for paediatric SLT in Airdrie Community Health Centre will improve from 25+ weeks to less than 12 weeks by September 2016.
