The Growing up in Scotland project found that children whose language is delayed at the age of 3 years are liable to have literacy difficulties in school, falling behind their peers and showing an associated delay in academic achievement. Developing an effective intervention is important. Helping parents use interactive reading strategies with their children may be helpful. Aim: By December 2015, 100% of a sample of six children in Stirling with delayed language development will improve their language skills to within the developmental norms for their age (as measured by the Ages and Stages Questionnaire – ASQ-3).
