Scottish Education generally serves children well, however there remains an attainment gap between pupils from the richest and poorest backgrounds. The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation ranks the area served by the school within the most deprived in Scotland (Rank 2). Our current school data supports the relationship between socio-economic backgrounds and attainment, particularly in reading. As research suggests that increased reading engagement can reduce 30% of the attainment gap and can have long term effects on achievements in other curriculum areas, raising attainment in reading is a school improvement priority.
