Project Aim: 10% reduction in sepsis mortality in pilot areas by June 2016 The risk of death associated with Sepsis is considerable. There is an estimated 150,000 cases of sepsis annually in the UK, resulting in 44,000 deaths. Sepsis responds well to early intervention and, if required, rapid escalation of therapy. Reliable delivery of the sepsis 6 care bundle has been shown to reduce mortality in septic patients by as much as 50%. The Sepsis 6 is a bundle of interventions that when implemented as a group, have an effect on outcomes beyond implementing individual elements alone. The process I have been supporting to date is achieving reliability with delivery of Sepsis 6 within 1 hour of diagnosis.
