The aims and objectives of this teaching programme are to provide nurses with foundation knowledge and skills to undertake the role of a nurse within a forensic sexual offences setting. Teaching will cover:

  • Immediate assessment using trauma informed practice
  • Corroboration of forensic evidence gathering
  • Provision and maintenance of a forensically secure environment.
  • Assess and manage clinical risk, ongoing safety and follow-up healthcare
  • Client advocacy
  • Concise and accurate documentation.

Following this teaching programme, competence to perform as a Sexual Offences Nurse Practitioner will be achieved with clinical supervision, a robust competency based framework, mentoring and ongoing peer support.
