This accessibility statement applies to the Turas Data Intelligence application (https://turasdata.nes.nhs.scot/).
This application is run by NHS Education for Scotland. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this application. For example, that means you should be able to:

• zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the application using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the application using speech recognition software
• skip to content links at the top of the page

We’ve also made the application text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this application is

Parts of this application are not fully accessible. For example:

• some focus styles are missing, which makes it visually difficult to see what element is currently selected when using a keyboard
• some link text in the footer has insufficient colour contrast, which can make it difficult to read for users with visual impairments
• date picker controls are not fully accessible using a keyboard
• users of screen readers may experience issues accessing data displayed through external software such as Power BI

This application is partially compliant with the WCAG 2.1 AA standard due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content


The content is non-accessible for the following reasons:

• some areas of the site are not optimised for screen reader use, as ARIA landmark roles are missing – this fails WCAG 2.1 Success Criteria 1.3.1: Info and Relationships and 2.4.1: Bypass Blocks
• date picker components cannot be operated using only the keyboard – this fails WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 2.1.1: Keyboard
• insufficient colour contrast on some footer links – this fails WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 1.4.3: Contrast (Minimum)
• missing focus indicators on dropdowns and menu elements – this fails WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 2.4.7: Focus Visible
• embedded Power BI reports may not be accessible to users relying on screen readers or keyboard navigation – this fails WCAG 2.1 Success Criteria 2.1.1: Keyboard and 4.1.2: Name, Role, Value

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations


PDFs and other documents


The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

The Turas platform is going through a redesign process and will be implementing a new design system which will bring older applications up to the WCAG 2.2 standard.
Turas Learn and Portfolio are the first applications scheduled to be upgraded in the 2025/2026 financial year.

This application was last tested on 18 September 2019 against the WCAG 2.1 AA standard.
The audit was carried out by a member of the NHS Education for Scotland digital team.
