The SMMDP team are seeking your views on this draft guidance to support the Scottish Routine Examination of the Newborn (SREN) (equivalent to NIPE). Developed in collaboration with expert clinicians and supported by current evidence, your views on the content and usability of this guidance is needed before publication of a final version for use on our SREN course and to support clinicians performing this examination.
The focus of this initial consultation is on acute and community maternity services.
Further work is ongoing with General Practice (GP) colleagues to develop supporting education and guidance for the infant examination at 6-8 weeks of age.
We are seeking your views on this draft NHS Scotland Skills Passport for MCAs, MSWs and Perinatal HCSWs. Developed in collaboration with the RCM in Scotland, expert clinical MCAs and student MCAs, university and maternity service colleagues and supported by current evidence.
Your views on the content and usability of this skills passport is needed before publication of a final version. It is currently being piloted by the University of the West of Scotland.
The consultation will remain open until Friday 7th December 2025.
