Who this is for: Speakeasy small group sessions are short, free online interactive learning sessions for parents and carers.

 The focus is on a safe space to encourage positive communication with children and young people about all aspects of growing up, safety, relationships, wellbeing and sexual health.  

The webinars also provide a helpful introduction to the Speakeasy programme. Speakeasy is a new preventative community education programme which helps parents and carers tackle the complex and often difficult issues around children growing up, including body changes, safety and relationships & sexual health.

These will be informal, conversation-based sessions.

Learning aims:
Speakeasy learning sessions are provided by trained facilitators to explore the difficult and often confusing issues of growing up, technology and relationships. The webinars provide information, resources, and support to help. The webinar series include: The Adolescent Brain and Risk. Young People, Relationships and The Online World. Healthy Relationships, Consent and The Law. Learning outcomes for each of these webinars can be found in the Learning Aims.

Learning outcomes:
The Adolescent Brain and Risk session: Session Aim: For parents and carers to understand changes in the adolescent brain and how this relates to risk taking. At the end of this session parents and carers will be able to: Reflect on the nature of risk and development Identify how young people's risk-taking behaviour may be influenced by brain development Identify what parents and carers can do to support young people during these changes. Young People, Relationships and The Online World session: Session Aim: For parents and carers to understand technology as it relates to young people and relationships. At the end of this session parents and carers will be able to: Identify how young people's behaviour and attitudes may be influenced by technology Identify what parents and carers can do to counteract the potential negative influences of technology on behaviour Identify further resources and support. Healthy Relationships, Consent and The Law session: Session Aim: For parents and carers to understand the law and consent in relation to young people and relationships. At the end of this session parents and carers will be able to: Identify laws around young people and sex Identify how young people understand and practise consent Identify barriers to consent and how to discuss it.
