An overview of the Turas Learn application, breaking down functionality and providing guidance for new users.

About Turas Learn

Turas Learn hosts learning resources for health and social care staff in Scotland. These range from essential learning to CPD, and from general information or signposting sites to trackable eLearning modules, courses and programmes.

When you are signed into your Turas account, any learning you complete on Learn is recorded in your personal learning history. From there you can evidence your learning and download certificates of completion.

Refer to the following guidance documents for more details:

Registering for a Turas Account

To create a new Turas account, select the “Sign in / Register” option at the top right of the screen. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up an account and confirm your email address.

Are you an NHS Scotland staff member?
As part of the onboarding process for new employees, a Turas account will be registered in your name by your employing board. NHS Scotland staff shouldn’t need to self-register for an account. However, if for any reason you are required to set up an account manually, please ensure you use your official name@nhs.scot email address. This will avoid the creation of a duplicate account by the onboarding process.

My Learn

When signed in, the home page provides an overview of the available tools and recommended learning resources:

If your organisation has specific mandatory training pages, or any other suggested content, these will be highlighted on the “Mandatory learning” screen, or in the “Recommended” panel.

Any sites you've chosen to bookmark will be included in the “Favourites” panel for easy access. Add a resource to this list by clicking the “Add to Favourites” link at the top right of the screen.

Manage and track your learning activities on the application by making use of the My Learn screens. These are accessible via the My Learn panel when on the home page, or via the drop down menu on the main toolbar at the top of the screen.

  • Learning History - View any completed learning and access completion / attendance certificates
  • My Courses - Lists all upcoming courses you are currently booked on
  • Requires Renewal - Lists any activates you need to renew within the next three months
  • In Progress - Lists any activities that you are currently working on

Searching for Resources

The search box on the Turas Learn home page is the main route to search for resources on the application. Enter your search term here to generate a list of results.

When you start typing in the box, suggestions of matching resources will appear in a drop down list below the box. It's not mandatory to pick from this list, you can still choose to search based on your own query. The list is just intended to highlight specific resources that might relate to your query.

After submitting a query, the Search Results screen will display.

The default display lists results by Relevance, this can be changed to a simple A-Z list via the dropdown menu on the right.

Results can be refined using the filters on the left. Possible filters include the type of resource, the author, the site the resource is hosted within, the intended audience, etc.
