Add to favourites

After your appraisal you may consider:

  • Action planning
  • On-going support
  • Maintaining momentum and recording progress

This page will highlight some tools and resources that will enable this.

Following your initial appraisal, you should have a clearer understanding of what professional development opportunities you may wish to explore further. There are a couple of ways which this can be done.

You can use the reflective self-assessment tool which can be found on the NMAHP Development Framework website. You may have already used reflection to consider opportunities when preparing for your appraisal, however, reflection can also be used to plan your professional development. In addition, you may find the reflective templates within your professional portfolio helpful as they guide you through an aspect of work and allows you to consider opportunities for further development.

Within the professional portfolio, there is also a professional journey plan you can complete. This supports you to examine your objectives which have been set during your appraisal and looks at actions and barriers as well as ways to achieve your objectives.

Another tool within the NMAHP Development Framework, is an action planning and priority rating tool. This tool can help you to create actionable steps to help achieve your objectives and meet your professional development plan (PDP). The tool is also a great way to track your progress.

On going support

Reflection may raise thoughts and feelings as you think back on events over the last year, if you feel like you would like support or information on various wellbeing resources you can visit the National Wellbeing Hub.

You can find lots more information around professional development on the following page: Useful resources to support your development | NMAHP Development Framework

Remember to keep your supervisor and manager up to date on how your professional development is progressing as they are there to support you.
