Finding and using knowledge

This session highlighted some useful ways to use features in your NHS Scotland library account to help manage your research and make finding useful resources easier.  Includes

• Saving results and make collections by adding labels
• Saving searches and set up alerts
• Sharing results including exporting to references management software

After attending the session you may wish to complete the activities below.  You may also revise the slides and find a selection of the links referred to.  

Activity one

On The Knowledge Network review the Using my account pages. 

Activity two

• Open The Knowledge Network library search in a new window and sign in.
• Add keywords to the search box and pin a few examples into My Favourites   
• Add labels to your saved items
• Save a search and set an alert

Activity three

• Open The Knowledge Network library search in a new window and sign in.
• From My Favourites export some results either via reference management software, by email or  as an excel spreadsheet.

Building upon the previous training, by the end of the session you will be able to 
 

• Recognise when library search is the right option for your information need
• Combine keywords to search on your chosen topic
• Narrow your results using filters
• Expand your results to identify additional relevant articles

This session explores clinical decision support and evidence summary tools available via The Knowledge Network, including BMJ Best Practice, DynaMed, ClinicalKey and Nursing and Allied Health Reference Source.

By the end of the session you will be able to:

• Find and access these resources on The Knowledge Network
• Describe the differences between them and the advantages of each
• Use them to search for trusted, up to date evidence
