The Brilliant Basics: Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) Teaching Packs provide a starting point for anyone in health and care aiming to deliver training or education to build confidence and competence in foundational HFE concepts in their organisation. 

 

Developed by leading experts across healthcare, education, and safety science, these resources introduce the essential principles, methods, and language of HFE—helping to replace common misunderstandings with accurate, practical knowledge. 

 

Each pack is a slide deck with facilitator’s notes, creating interactive learning materials designed to support educators, trainers, and practitioners in embedding HFE into everyday teaching, quality improvement, and patient safety activities. Designed as a starting point for you to create your own HFE lessons.

 

Whether you are new to HFE or enhancing existing programmes, these resources will offer a flexible, evidence‑informed way to strengthen systems thinking, support workforce wellbeing, and improve the safety and performance of healthcare environments.
