The session will consist of an introduction followed by three scenarios for you to work through in small groups with the help of a simulated patient and the EyeSi virtual reality slit lamp.
You will be in small groups and will take turns to take the lead on the cases in turn. You will all be expected to participate in discussion and examination of the patient and feedback.
An actor will present as a patient, you will be expected to conduct history and symptoms. Work through possible differential diagnosis and examine the patient using the EyeSi virtual reality slit lamp. Discuss clinical findings and differential diagnosis formulating a management plan based on findings using evidence for treatment referencing CMG and other resources. Feedback discussion with the patient on the management plan. Conclusion with feedback from actor and facilitator.
NES Optometry reserve the right to cancel any sessions due to unforeseen circumstances, we will endeavour to give as much notice of this where possible. In such situations all communication will be done through email.

If you cancel with less than 72h notice or do not attend a session you may be charged up to £150 for the session. All absences will be recorded and may affect your future ability to book.
I confirm I understand I must submit each IP Logbook session within 2 weeks of attendance otherwise the session will not count towards my placement.

Refine ability in reassuring concerned patients presenting with physical and/or emotional discomfort caused by ectropion, anterior blepharitis (seborrhoeic), or trichiasis with corneal erosions, whilst maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, through simulated, actor-led clinical scenarios. Demonstrate specialist skills in communicating clear and effective management plans, including informed consent where appropriate, to patients presenting with trichiasis, entropion and seborrhoeic dermatitis. (S1.7)

Enhance competence in efficiently diagnosing and managing patients with ectropion, anterior blepharitis (seborrhoeic) and trichiasis with corneal erosions, consulting local and national guidelines and protocols, through engagement in simulated, actor-led scenarios. (S5.3)
Demonstrate capacity to interpret signs and symptoms (distinguishing between acute flare-ups and chronic presentations) of ectropion, anterior blepharitis (seborrheic), trichiasis with corneal erosions, thus ensuring appropriate management. (S7.1)
