Project background: What and Why

The National Centre for Remote and Rural Health and Care (the Centre) team are supporting the implementation and evaluation of impact of the Community Induction Officer role and objectives within the multi-agency community led “Work on Skye” recruitment and retention project.

This is one of a set of recruitment and retention projects that the Centre Phase 1 team are implementing, evaluating, and supporting across remote, rural and island primary care and community settings. The combined outputs from all of these projects are intended to assist both the local area and then have transferable outputs for use in many other areas across Scotland.

Project description: Who and How

This collaborative project is part of a programme of remote, rural and island recruitment & retention work undertaken by NHS Highland, the local community, community trust and the Centre. The Skye recruitment group has been formed and a range of project work is underway including this project. The Centre provides practical support for the post, the work of the group and in evaluating the impact of the work delivered.

Expected outcome:  When and What Difference

This community co-produced programme of work aims to improve the attraction and retention of a range of health and care staff within Skye. The Centre is supporting this programme of work until March 2025 in several practical ways to help achieve impact and improvement.

The Centre is also helping evaluate the outcomes of this project in order that this group, and others, can identify which parts of the programme have worked well, for whom, why and where. In this way, as well as assisting this local area, the results can be shared widely across Scotland for take up or adaptation in many other remote, rural and island settings.
