The pathways are not specific to any profession, organisation or role and apply to everyone working in health and social care in Scotland (NHS, Local Authorities, Health and Social Care Partnerships, Social Work, Social Care, Care and Support Providers, Housing, Third and Independent Sectors), including managers, leaders, and those in strategic positions.
We recommend you start with Explore and progress through the pathways in accordance with your level of responsibility, role and interest. However, if you feel you are unsure about the concepts, or uncomfortable with the tasks when you are using a pathway, jump back to the previous pathway and revisit the content to refresh your knowledge. You will find more information on the How to use the Pathways page.
Please use this Feedback Form to let us know as soon as possible about anything in the pathway site that isn’t working. This will allow us to fix any issues as quickly as possible.
You can use these pathways without telling your manager, team leader or colleagues. However, we do recommend that you talk about the pathways in one-to-one conversations and at team meetings, using these to share what you have learnt and open up discussions about the topics raised. We suggest that you always discuss the pathways as part of your personal development conversations and when planning your future learning needs.
If you are currently working on a pathway, revisit the information as often as you feel you need to. If you have previously completed a pathway and aren’t working on the next pathway in the series, it is recommended that you revisit your current pathway regularly to keep your knowledge up-to-date. Pathway content will be updated on a monthly basis, and you can access this form to register to receive update notifications when new resources are added.
You will find more information on How to use the Pathways on this site. If you are still unsure we advise that you speak to your line manager, team leader, or a trusted colleague.
Embedding digital ways of working in organisations is a prerequisite to improving outcomes in health and social care. To enable this, the health and social care workforce need to adopt digital ways of working and have good awareness of digital systems and processes. The workforce also need to be supported by strong digital leadership.
Scottish Government and COSLA have commissioned these pathways to promote workforce development in these areas. To find out more about this, visit the Pathways Overview section on the Pathways Homepage.
The pathways are not available in a downloadable format. This is to avoid the circulation of outdated versions as the pathway content will change regularly.
