NES will deliver three regional in-person orientation events for all IMG doctors who have joined NHS Scotland in the last 12 months. Attendees will be invited by NES, please contact ejaz.farooqui@nhs.scot, Administrative Officer, NES.
For doctors joining a formal medical training programme, you will receive information on your programme induction from your Training Programme Directors.
The HR/Medical Staffing team from the employing Health Board will provide you with a contract of employment, information about how you will be paid, your location/hours of work, etc. Guidance will also be provided on local amenities and support networks.
There is a nominated IMG Lead in Health Boards to support IMGs new to NHS Scotland. Find your local lead on the Scotland Deanery website and navigate down the list to NHS Scotland Health Board Contacts.
You will receive an induction to the Health Board you will work for. The HR team, Medical Staffing team and the IMG Lead can provide further information.
In person enhanced SIM sessions are available in several Health Boards, to help IMGs with some of the challenges they might experience if new to practicing in the UK. These provide a learning experience in a safe environment, and are not assessed. Contact your Health Board contact for information about these sessions.
