Self Assessment and Action Planning

The self-assessment tool is in four sections: Clinical practice, Evidence, Research, and Development, Facilitation of Learning, Leadership. Every section is worth spending time on. It will help signpost you on to further learning activities, valuable resources, and key links. Please don't try to do all of the sections in one go as you may feel overloaded with information. Set a time to return to the site and work through the next section.

By assessing yourself on specific knowledge and skills in each pillar of practice, you can see clearly what you do well and in which areas you could be safer or more effective. It will help you to work out your next steps and create an action plan which may link to your KSF development review and PDP.

The action plan is where you identify learning needs, it follows a straightforward approach to help you consider where you are now, where you want to be, how you will get there and how you will know that you have achieved your goal.

You may prefer to use the new journey planning templates. A similar format to this is also available in the TURAS profile.

Remember that the NMAHP Development Framework also you to helps assess your learning needs and construct a development plan.
