6 Months Appraisal

Add to favourites

As a part of your induction there will be a 6 months Appraisal with the Chair of your Board to gauge your journey into your role and pin point key areas that are going well and others that have improvement opportunities.

What is the 6 Months Appraisal

In addition to annual appraisals, in the first 6 months of a non-executive Board Member joining a Board, the Chair should undertake two developmental conversations with the member. The first will be to discuss feedback from the selection process including key strengths, how to use these in role and also the opportunity to identify knowledge gaps and how to support the non-executive to bridge these. The second meeting at the end of the 6-month period is to review the induction experience, what the non-executive has learnt about the skills and manner to adopt to be most effective in role. The discussion will also cover what they have noticed about the culture of the local health and social care system.

The Chair should encourage the non-executives to continuously develop their skills and knowledge for good governance. One way to encourage continuous improvement and development is to use the self relfection tool below. This tool will inform how the non-executive intends to communicate NHS values and shape healthy cultures by the way they take up their role; and reflect on the organisational culture experienced through meetings and visits during orientation period.

Values Based Reflective Practice

Use the Values Based Reflective tool to capture your reflections from meetings and visits throughout your induction. This will “enable” you to consider the values and manner your Board delivers quality services and help you determine the actions and behaviours you want to leverage in your style
