NMAHP Development Framework Refresh 

The timeline for the refresh of the NMAHP Development Framework is October 2022 to March 2025.  

The aim of the refresh is to: 

  • Update and refresh the NMAHP development framework and website 
  • Improve accessibility and engagement with the framework 
  • Integrate the framework into staff appraisal  
  • Promote and increase the use of the framework ​ 

So far, we have conducted a user survey, facilitated workshops and set up a user forum.

NMAHP Development Framework website launch event on 29 April 2025.

Who is the event for: All healthcare support workers, nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and educators across Scotland.

Aims of the website launch event

  • Hear about the refresh of the Framework
  • See the new website and tools available
  • Find out how the framework can benefit you 
  • Hear from others about their experiences of using the Framework

The event will be recorded and the link to this provided in due course.

  • 5 June 2025 (13.00-14.30) 

Online via Microsoft Teams

Who are they for: All healthcare support workers, nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and educators across Scotland.

Aims of the user workshops

  • Increase awareness of the key elements of the Framework
  • Increase awareness of the benefits of using Frameworks
  • Identify resources for support
  • Create your own action plan for implementation
  • Build confidence to use the Framework

NMAHP Development Framework managers workshops  

Workshops were held during February and March 2025

Workshop deliverables included: 

  • An overview of the NMAHP Development Framework and its benefits for you. 
  • A detailed explanation of the key components of the framework. 
  • Insights into how the framework can support staff development. 
  • Guidance on available resources and support materials. 
  • Practical processes to simplify and enhance your use of the framework.

NMAHP Development Framework User Forum

The User Forum was established in November 2022 to support the refresh of the framework.  

The forum has been essential in providing stakeholder engagement, expert advice and guidance for the refresh.   

The aim of the forum is to provide advice and subject matter expertise to refine, develop and support the ongoing maintenance of the development framework.    

Main activities include:  

  • Providing advice and guidance on the user experience
  • Influencing and shaping the development and ongoing maintenance of the framework
  • Reviewing and providing regular feedback
  • Developing and testing new content
  • Participating and contributing to the output of the working groups
  • Championing the framework in practice.

Meetings of the group       

  • Meetings will normally be virtual via MS Teams
  • Meeting frequency will be monthly until Dec 2024 then move to 3 monthly
  • Communication will be via MS Teams dedicated channel
  • An activity schedule will be provided to support planning for key activity periods
  • NES team will provide meeting facilitation and business support.     

Membership of the group   

Membership is representative of the framework users and includes:   

  • Nursing 
  • Allied Health Professions
  • Midwifery 
  • Healthcare Support Workers
  • Education
  • Professional Organisations like RCN   

 Membership of the forum will be for at least a year.    

Working groups overview    

We have 4 working groups that you can contribute to. The areas selected for 2024/25 are:   

  • Impact and evaluation
  • Implementation and promotion
  • Resources and guidance
  • Content maintenance    

The overall aim of the working groups is to support the long-term improvement, maintenance, and development of the framework.
