Background to framework development

The Hospital at Home (H@H) Knowledge and Skills Development Framework has been co-produced by NHS Education for Scotland (NES) in collaboration with the Hospital at Home national stakeholder group and Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) national hospital at home network.

The framework is intended to be used by healthcare practitioner’s managers and educators to understand and develop knowledge and skills to support the H@H service. Staff groups include Healthcare Support workers, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals.

Aim of the Framework

The Hospital at Home (H@H) Development Framework aims to articulate the knowledge and skills required to provide high quality acute hospital level services at home.

How can the framework be used?

The framework has been designed to be used by practitioners, managers, and educators in different ways like supporting development, job planning, recruitment and to prepare the hospital at home team to deliver specific services.

Examples of use:

Practitioners

  • Live document to identify areas of development and benchmark current practice

Managers

  • Develop current and emerging H@H services
  • Support team skill mix

Educators

  •  To identify opportunities for shared, inter-professional learning
