Spiritual Care Webinar - Listening with a Storyteller's Ear: The chaplain as safe witness.

Every story deserves a safe witness. Learn the chaplain's distinctive art — welcoming a colleague's story, however raw or unfinished, without rushing to fix it. 

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this webinar, it is expected participants will be able to: 

• Describe witnessing as a distinct and skilled chaplaincy act, and explain why an unconditional welcome for a colleague’s story is the chaplain’s distinctive offer in everyday staff support.
• Extend that welcome to a story told in unpolished, unfinished, brutal or unflattering form — while distinguishing welcome from agreement, endorsement or collusion, and naming the honest limits that keep it trustworthy.
• Recognise the three shapes a stuck story takes — truncated, circular and fixed-ending — and respond by witnessing rather than correcting.
• Notice where a person has placed themselves in their own account, using the vocabulary of narrative position, and attend to whether they can move between positions.

Target Audience: This webinar is aimed at healthcare chaplains and spiritual care teams across the NHS. It also has broader relevance to the wider health and social care workforce who support members of staff.
