Travel Health Programme

Add to favourites

NHS Education for Scotland Travel Health Programme is to help practitioners to develop the knowledge and skills required to support the delivery of a NHS Scotland Level 2 travel health service safely and effectively. Successful completion of the NES interactive travel health e-learning resource is only one strand of the anticipated learner journey. To achieve proficiency in the delivery of the Travel Health level 2 specification learners may require additional training. Employers will remain responsible for support, supervision and proficiency assessment prior to practice.

The theoretical component of the programme takes the form of three interactive e-Learning units:

Section A, Travel Health Risk Assessment
Section B, NHS Vaccines
Section C, Multiple Choice Assessment

A period of supervised practice is suggested to support you to achieve proficiency. You may find it useful to work through the travel heath case scenarios with your supervisor to support this.

Further information is available in the guidance documents which we reccommend that you read before undertaking the Travel Health Programme or supervising the learner.

There are some suggested pre-requisites listed within the proficiency assessment tool and your employer may require you to undertake additional learning prior to practice. You should discuss your learning needs with your supervisor prior to undertaking this learning programme. Proficiency assessment and approval to undertake practice is the responsibility of your employer, proficiency assessment tools are available to support this.

Knowledge and Skills Assessment

Before you undertake practice in NHS Scotland Level two Travel Health Service you will need to demonstrate that you have achieved the required knowledge and skills.

The multiple-choice assessment unit should be completed following the two interactive e-learning units (Section A: Risk Assessment and Section B: NHS Travel Vaccines).  A cumulative pass mark of 80% is required. To allow you to demonstrate successful completion of the eLearning, you will be able to generate a certificate for each of the three units.

Proficiency assessment tools to use with your supervisor are available to allow you to demonstrate acquisition of knowledge and skills. These can be accessed below.
