Good communication is particularly important in relation to annual health checks. From here you can access a range of learning and support resources that are relevant to enhancing and improving communication.

Essentials of Learning Disabilities

Essentials of Learning Disability is a collection of e-learning modules covering a wide range of topics. There is a module called “Communication” in the “Supporting People” group that is particularly relevant.

Depending on your learning needs and the needs of the people you support, some of the other modules might also be helpful e.g. “Visual and hearing impairment” and “Common health conditions.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

“AAC is a term used to describe various methods that supplement or replace typical speech and writing when these methods are impaired. AAC can be used for both expression and comprehension”. (Communication Matters, About AAC Systems – Communication Matters)

A series of short modules about AAC is available. They are designed for people who do not have previous specialised knowledge of communication disability, or of communication aids.
