Advanced Practice Toolkit

Advanced Practice Toolkit

The purpose of this advanced practice toolkit is to support practitioners to enhance their knowledge and understanding about advanced practice and can be used to identify relevant learning resources for professional development across the four pillars of practice.

This advanced practice toolkit is mainly set within a Scottish context.

Health policy is currently devolved to the four UK countries. Further information for each country can be found via the links below.

England

Health Education England have a dedicated Centre for Advancing Practice which was established to oversee the workforce transformation of advanced level practice. This short video gives further information.   

Health Education England (HEE) and NHS England and NHS Improvement worked in partnership to develop a multi-professional national framework for advanced clinical practice to support a national consistency and understanding about advanced level practice. This framework offers opportunities for mid-career development of new skills such as prevention, shared decision making, and self-care.

Wales

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is the strategic workforce body for NHS Wales. To support workforce development of advanced level practice in Wales HEIW have produced the Professional Framework for Enhanced, Advanced and Consultant Clinical Practice in Wales.

Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery (NIPEC) is the strategic workforce body for Northern Ireland.

To support the nursing workforce development of advanced level practice in Northern Ireland NIPEC have produced an Advanced Nursing Practice Framework

To support the Allied Health Professions (AHP) workforce development of advanced level practice in Northern Ireland NIPEC have produced guidance Advanced AHP Practice Framework.
