People with learning disabilities are more likely to experience circumstances that affect psychological wellbeing, such as social isolation, physical health problems and poverty.  People with learning disabilities are also more likely to experience mental health difficulties than those without a learning disability.  The information and resources within this section will support you to improve your knowledge and skills around supporting psychological care. 

Psychological wellbeing: Essentials of Learning Disability

Three e-learning modules on psychological wellbeing are available as part of Essentials of Learning Disability, a set of brief modules on a range of topics.

The modules are:

  • Understanding psychological difficulties
  • What is psychological therapy?
  • Supporting someone engaged in psychological therapy

 

Psychological Interventions for low mood

Beat It and Step up are evidence based adapted psychological interventions for people with Learning Disabilities and low mood. 

Below you will find two eLearning modules, introducing these interventions. 

Please note to access Talking therapies for depression: beat it and Talking therapies for depression: step up eLearning you will be required to log in to TURAS Learn prior to being able to launch the programmes
