SQEP is an acronym for suitably qualified and experienced professional.
In highly technical, high-risk industries, the term ‘SQEP’ has become an essential standard for job roles.
A few NHS Trust organisations in England have already been successful in making local business cases to directly advertise for and employ SQEPs such as Chartered Ergonomists and Human Factors specialists. Others can learn from this business case approach or, for example, take a different tact through natural staff turnover e.g. when a patient safety lead moves to another post explore the option of advertising externally for a SQEP as a replacement at no additional cost. As mentioned, local staff can also be supported to undergo academic training as SQEPs quickly and at low-cost.
