Documents covering vaccine proficiency and training declaration for COVID-19 vaccinators

Certifying your learning

Before you are able to undertake vaccination practice you need to demonstrate that you have achieved the required knowledge and skills.

Some examples are given in the list below:

Statutory and mandatory should be completed as specified by your employer including basic/paediatric life support and anaphylaxis appropriate to the age group you will be working with. This may also include additional sessions on infection prevention and control and sharps management

Promoting effective immunisation practice (PEIP) - you will be prompted to login with your Turas account

Core Information (knowledge) learning resources relevant to your learning needs

Vaccine specific (knowledge) relevant to the area you will be working

Vaccine specific (practical) preparing a vaccine, IM injection technique and administration

Other resources (knowledge) relevant to your learning needs for example procedural distress, vaccinating children and young people

Self declaration

The next step is to complete the self-declaration checklist.

How to use the tool

Once you have completed the learning relevant to your role, download the self-declaration check list and indicate the resources that you have completed and then sign the self-declaration statement.

Please note: vaccinators should ensure that you follow your local educational and clinical governance arrangements in relation to knowledge and proficiency (including clinical skills) to undertake vaccination.

Supervision is recommended for all new vaccinators until both they, and their supervisor or trainer, feel confident that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to administer vaccines safely and competently.

Proficiency documents

Before you are able to undertake vaccination practice you need to demonstrate that you have achieved the required knowledge and skills.  NES/PHS have developed proficiency assessment documents for registered healthcare practitioners and for healthcare support workers.

These proficiency assessment documents should be used in practice with your supervisor/line manager and will allow you to demonstrate proficiency of both Flu immunisation and COVID-19  immunisation.
