Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland published the HCID Addendum on 25 August 2025 which contains guidance on the use of the new UK HCID assessment PPE ensemble. NHS Boards in Scotland have until 25 August 2026 to implement the new ensemble and once the transition is complete, healthcare workers should follow the guidance within the HCID Addendum.
Education to support adoption of the new ensemble can be found on this page. Until the transition is complete, the Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (VHF) donning and doffing PPE video first published in 2014 will remain available for use.
Welcome to the High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID) learning page. These resources are designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to don and doff HCID assessment personal protective equipment (PPE) when caring for suspected or confirmed HCID cases.
Completion of these materials is essential for healthcare workers involved in the care of suspected or confirmed HCID cases in NHS Scotland.
