Information and resources for nursing and midwifery students relating to raising concerns
The following two guidance documents detail the process for speaking up or raising a concern and are intended to be used by nursing and midwifery students in Scotland whilst undertaking practice learning experiences during their pre-registration nursing and midwifery programmes.
For students on non-NHS placements the ‘Raising concerns in practice a national approach for nursing and midwifery students, non-NHS practice learning experience providers and higher education institutions in Scotland’ should be followed.
From 1 April 2021 there is a new process for raising a concern or whistleblowing about patient safety or other harm within the NHS. More information can be found at https://inwo.spso.org.uk/ and information about the new standards at https://inwo.spso.org.uk/whistleblowing
For students in NHS placements the ‘Speaking up- national whistleblowing guidance for nursing and midwifery students in Scotland’ should be followed.
