Introduction

A specific midwifery programme board , a sub-group of the FNMPB, was established during 2020 to support the implementation of the new NMC education standards for midwives. The three approved education institutions (AEI’s) for pre-registration midwifery education; Robert Gordon University (RGU), Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) and the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) gained NMC approval in the spring of 2021 and the pre-registration midwifery programmes commenced in September 2021. This has been a true partnership endeavour, with practice colleagues, service users and students all contributing to the design of the new curriculums and the approval events themselves. In October 2021, Edinburgh Napier University also gained NMC approval to commence a post-registration shortened midwifery programme due to commence in January 2022. It is an exciting time for midwifery education in Scotland.

Workplan

To ensure effective partnership working between the universities, practice partners and other stakeholders, the Midwifery Education Group Scotland (MEGS) have developed a workplan to support the activities required to implement all aspects of the Future Midwife agenda:
