Resources and activities identified within the ‘Approaches to Preceptorship’ section can assist in supporting the preceptee’s evidence of engagement with their learning and professional development. In line with professional and organisational requirements, preceptees require to consider management and safe storage of their evidence.

Keeping a Professional Portfolio

Establishing and maintaining a career long professional portfolio allows for storing of on-going learning and development evidence which can then be then used as evidence to satisfy professional regulatory requirements of NMC Revalidation, in addition to the TURAS appraisal process. Therefore, it is not recommended that a separate professional portfolio is kept for the preceptorship programme.

Nurses and midwives in Scotland can register for a TURAS Nursing and Midwifery Professional Portfolio which sits within the TURAS digital platform. The TURAS portfolio has been developed to enable nurses and midwives to generate, record, reflect on and share evidence of their learning and continuing professional development. Visit the NES corporate websites for more information on Professional Portfolio.

Within TURAS Professional Portfolio, the following templates are included for evidencing learning:

  • Record of Learning Activity
  • Record of Support or Supervision
  • Professional Journey Plan
  • Reflective Account (this includes different reflective templates)

The preceptee may also wish to consider using the NMC revalidation templates to document and store their evidence. These can be found on the NMC revalidation microsite and are also held within the TURAS Professional Portfolio:
