Why have a CAMHS competence framework?

NES has worked in partnership with University College London to create an evidence based competence framework, which describes the knowledge and skills underpinning the various clinical activities carried out by a CAMHS service.  A wide range of stakeholders have supported the project,  including the Scottish Government. The framework can help clinicians to reflect on their practice, and provide guidance to those involved in supervision, training, and clinical governance activities.  For more detailed information on its various applications, please read the background documentation:

Accessing the competence framework map

The map above shows six broad domains of competence with each domain represented by a column on the map

The map functions as an overview. We have tried to make access to the lists of competences as easy as possible and you have two main options:

  1. From the Map (external link to PDF diagram) as shown above. To see the competences associated with a specific activity, click on the relevant box in the map.
  2. The first three domains of the framework represent the competences expected of all case holding CAMHS clinicians. On this basis, we have provided below ‘one click’ access to the complete set of competences within each domain:
