So far in this webinar series, we have been considering how systems thinking can ‘scaffold’ our approach to improvement. Scaffolding allows us to decide our strategy, but to understand the system interactions, we need specific tools to unpick work-as-done. Task analysis is a way of breaking down a task, shedding light on steps that underpin achievement of the overarching goal. It exposes performance vulnerabilities and paves the way for intelligent re-design to support performance. Hierarchical task analysis is a bread-and-butter’ Human Factors tool and this webinar will cover basic theory, as well as real-life example of it’s application in a COVID-19 context.
