Prevention and management of pressure ulcers
The education resources aim to help the learner understand pressure ulcers - how they form, how they are treated and, crucially, how they can be prevented.
The pressure ulcers programme is available as a series of eLearning modules, where learners self-select the modules relevant to the role and learning need and is also available as a reference book and workbook for work-based learning.

Once you have completed the modules or reference book and workbook below, please access the Skin and wound care toolkit from the National Association of Tissue Viability Nurses (NATVNs) via the Right Decision Service. This is part of the Right Decisions: Health & Care app, which you can also download from the app stores:

Please note: As part of NES educational governance processes, and following the publication of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) guidance, the NES IPC Education team is working with the National Association of Tissue Viability Nurses (NATVN) to review and update the Prevention and Management of Pressure Ulcer suite of eLearning modules.
Modules Affected
Following advice from NATVN, the following modules will be removed on Friday 27th February 2026 for this review:
- Prevention and management of pressure ulcers: introduction
- Prevention and management of pressure ulcers 1: principles of care for people at risk of and with existing pressure ulcers
- Prevention and management of pressure ulcers 3: risk factors and risk assessment
- Prevention and management of pressure ulcers 7: phases of wound healing and wound management
- Prevention and management of pressure ulcers 8: prevention and control of infection.
