Module 1: Incidence and Risk Factors

Learning Outcomes

  1. Interpret statistics which highlight mouth cancer rates in the UK.
  2. Demonstrate emotional intelligence when discussing cancer diagnosis with a patient.
  3. Discuss the potential treatment methods which could be used for mouth cancer.
  4. Examine suspicious mucosal abnormalities during a clinical assessment.
Module 2 - Clinical Examination and Diagnosis

Learning Outcomes

  1. State the required components of extra- and intra-oral examination in relation to mouth cancer.
  2. Provide examples of appropriate terminology for use in clinical notes and for onward referral.
  3. Name potentially malignant disorders which present in the mouth.
  4. List the causes of intra-oral white patches.
Module 3 - Benign Abnormalities, Referral and Skin Cancer

Learning Outcomes 

  1. Recognise benign abnormalities when clinically examining a patient’s mouth.
  2. Discuss the requirement for an Urgent Suspected Cancer referral with a patient who has an abnormality in their mouth.
  3. Identify and devise a list of essential criteria to include on an Urgent Suspected Cancer referral. 
  4. Distinguish areas of abnormality which could be suspected skin cancer.
