Delegation

Resources to support practitioners experiencing delegation.

Information for different practitioners

These resources are for support workers in health and care settings during the Coronavirus crisis (COVID-19). They will also be useful for staff returning to practice. They will help you understand delegation in the current context, especially what to do if you feel unable to accept a task being delegated to you.

This learning resource looks at the different elements of delegation and how to do this safely and effectively. It includes videos of different practitioners talking through their experiences of delegation, which illustrate the points made in the resource. The content of the resource is based on All Wales delegation guidance.

Delegation framework

These resources will outline the recommended delegation framework that should be used as a clinical decision making guide when delegating in practice. This will support practitioners who are returning to the register during COVID-19 or existing practitioners to delegate effectively and safely to “non supernumerary students” who will be out in practice learning environments.

This framework is shared with permission from the Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery Practice and is a framework for delegation of nursing and midwifery practice. It is suitable for all healthcare practitioners working in Scotland at this time.
