Career development framework for non-medical endoscopists

Add to favourites

The career development framework for non-medical endoscopists has been revised to reflect the evolving clinical, legal and educational requirements of the role.

Introduction to the framework

Its purpose is to provide a structured approach to education and training that ensures all non-medical endoscopists in Scotland qualify with the same core knowledge, skills and capabilities required to contribute to safe service delivery, while informing experienced practitioners of the development opportunities available within their professional career.

It is a supporting framework that builds upon the wider principles established in the NES NMAHP Development Framework (2024) to provide a consistent pathway through practice levels 6-8, identifying the specialist knowledge, training, skills and behaviours associated with endoscopy advanced practice roles and presenting the key responsibilities of each, as they relate to the four pillars of practice.

It can be used to-

  • Benchmark current level of practice for levels 6- 8.
  • Guide professional development.
  • Identify evidence to support personal development planning, or re-validation with registering body.
  • Support workforce forecasting, service redesign and skill mix.
  • Inform development opportunities and succession planning.
  • Identify and reference the anticipated level of competency associated with each level of practice.
  • Foster and tailor available learning opportunities.
  • Support practitioner integration with wider service provision in the region.
