Everyone in the Scottish public sector has ideas about how to improve their workplace. 

As part of a team seeking to improve service delivery, you can add more value by understanding the foundations of Quality Improvement.

SIFS offers foundation learning resources. These introduce colleagues to basic improvement methods used to achieve improvements. 

The SIFS programme is now delivered at a local level. For information on foundation-level Quality Improvement development opportunities, please contact your QI Team.

What is Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills?
SIFS aims to support individuals to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to take part as members of an improvement team. This includes contributing to testing, measuring and reporting on changes made.

Who is Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills for?
The programme is for all colleagues working in Public Services who are or will be, members of a Quality Improvement team.

How is Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills delivered?
SIFS consists of 7 modules delivered in an online learning environment. Each module will last for 90 minutes, with a further 90 minutes each week applying learning to a project.

Learners will:

  • Take part in all 7 modules
  • Share project progress using the templates provided during the programme.
