Vaccine specific training resources for registered healthcare practitioners relating to Human Papillomavirus GB MSM.
A targeted HPV-GBMSM vaccination programme was introduced in Scotland from the 1st of July 2017. On 5 August 2022, the JCVI published their recommendation of move to a one-dose schedule for the routine adolescent programme and MSM programme. This change from 2 to a one-dose dose schedule for all those eligible up to the age of 25 years took place, in Scotland from 1 January 2023. However, those over the age of 25 should remain on a 2-dose schedule.
In addition, the programme has now transitioned to Gardasil® 9 as the only HPV vaccine supplied for the national HPV MSM vaccination programme.
Please note: The HPV chapter of the Green Book was published on 20 June 2023. Practitioners should refer to Scottish Government CMO letters (2022) 34 and 35.
In order to further support the HPV immunisation programme for MSM, NHS Education for Scotland in partnership with Public Health Scotland has developed resources for registered healthcare practitioners. These can be found below and include training slides (and accompanying notes).
Please note: These educational resources continue to be updated as required to support this programme but do not replace the clinical judgement of practitioners. Practitioners should refer to the UK Health Security Agency Green Book Chapter when administering the vaccine. Practitioners should seek advice from local immunisation coordinators as required.
