Each of the clinical centres at Rigshospitalet is involved in the treatment of cancer patients. Cancer patients in Denmark are treated according to clinical pathways called cancer packages where the different steps in diagnosis and treatment are defined to take place within a certain number of days. Cancer patients are referred to our hospital from a number of hospitals both in the Capital Region and from other parts of Denmark. The task is complex and we have significant problems meeting the time lines in these cancer packages. The following cancer packages were chosen: Lung cancer, prostatic cancer, brain cancer, head- and neck cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer. We decided to focus on “the royal indicator” which is the time from referral to the start of the treatment. Aim: That 90% of the patients in each of the six cancer packages meet the time lines of the royal indicator by the end of 2016.
