Sepsis is associated with high morbidity and mortality. In the UK and Ireland there are many thousands of deaths attributed to sepsis. Early recognition and management of sepsis has led to a decrease in both mortality and length of hospital stay. Simple interventions at an early stage improve patient safety and reduce the financial burden of this indiscriminate disease on health care services. To improve systems to emphasise the importance of early management serve to enhance patient safety within the trust and are in keeping with the organisation’s vision and values. The objectives are to improve patient centred care through improvement, integration and innovation, involving all key stakeholders. My aim was to improve compliance with the Sepsis 6 bundle to 95% by June 2016 for patients in the Acute Medical Unit (Ward E) in the Mater Hospital, Belfast.
