Aim: 95% of patients will be triaged in accordance with current guidelines by the Emergency Department nurses at Wishaw General Hospital by June 2016. Triage is key to delivering the right care at the right time for patients attending an Emergency Department. Triage prioritises the sickest patients and determines how urgently they should receive treatment; Category 1 being the sickest but the highest volume of patients are in categories 3 and 4. Various pressures upon the department had led to increased variability in the prioritisation applied to patients and thus potentially poor patient care. This project aims to ensure that patients are triaged appropriately and consistently in line with guidelines currently available. Patient Flow (Effective Care) and Safety are the key organisational drivers behind this project.
