Oslo University Hospital, Ullevaal, is the largest hospital in Norway. In the Department of Internal Medicine, we have approximately 240 beds, 65 jr. doctors, 10 interns and 110 sr. doctors. During the past few years The Department of Internal Medicine has had increased focus on quality improvements (QI) using LEAN methodology. Even with this increased focus the QI work has still not got the support needed to be embedded in the work culture or in the execution of day-to-day duties. To succeed in QI work with the aim of increasing patient safety for all patients, it is necessary to get everyone on board, including the doctors. Since jr. doctors are located in every department and in the ER, they recognize challenges in every department. In reality the doctors have never been given the knowledge, the chance or even internal support of changing things for the better. This, we wanted to change!
