Improving employment focused support for BME communities in Glasgow

It is widely accepted that ethnic minority communities are under-represented in the labour market. This includes lower levels of employment rates and financial earnings. Jobcentres and third sector organisations play important and complimentary roles in supporting people to develop the skills necessary for sustainable, well-paid work. The project tested approaches to strengthening existing, and/or, implementing new referral pathways from a jobcentre in Glasgow to third sector services, with a distinct focus on providing additional employment support for BME communities (e.g. English language classes, educational opportunities, volunteering and work placements, digital learning, support with CV’s and applications). Aim: By April 2016, support 20 people from BME backgrounds to engage with additional employment support.
