Our aim is to build capacity within the teaching force to use the rich data we have available in Dumfries and Galloway to improve outcomes for all learners. Our Validated Self Evaluation in conjunction with Education Scotland identified this as an area for improvement, building on existing good practice, to be more aspirational for all learners. To achieve this we need to move the ‘knowledge’ from the senior management teams to classroom practitioners in order to successfully close the attainment gap. In this way we will use data intelligently to track individual progress and identify appropriate interventions. Our hypothesis is that by organising existing pupil data to make it more easily accessible and understandable, teachers will be more inclined to use it to inform teaching decisions. Aim: By June 2016, at least 70% of teachers in test schools using tools provided to identify pupil learning needs in closing the attainment gap.
