North Ayrshire Council has undertaken a Strategic Review of Education which aimed to close the attainment gap between those who live in North Ayrshire’s most deprived areas and those who do not. To help with this, the Directorate of Education and Youth Employment now seeks to improve its use of data and measurement to gather evidence of “what works” in learning and teaching. This project aims to improve the capacity of 10 teachers to use data and evidence to measure the impact of their teaching of an eight week Listening and Talking programme by overcoming the three key barriers perceived by teachers: lack of knowledge on how to gather and analyze data; lack of confidence in applying data gathering methodology to their learning and teaching; lack of time to manage additional paperwork and bureaucracy.
