Overview of critical care guidelines and frameworks

In May 2023 - CCNERF publish the revised National Standards for Adult Critical Care Nurse Education V3 which includes the core curriculum and competency development for registered nurses working in the critical care environment.

The Intensive Care Society have produced a number of professional development frameworks in support of critical care.

The Critical Care National Network Nurse Leads Forum (CC3N) in collaboration with other professional critical care nursing organisations and staff from Higher Education Institutes across the UK have developed the Steps Framework for Adult Critical Care Nurses. The Framework aims to equip staff with the knowledge and skills to enable them to practice at the highest level. 

The Intensive Care Society have produced a number of professional development frameworks in support of critical care. 

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) have a range of products relating to acute and critical care. 

SIGN have a number of clinical guidelines relevant to critical care with recommendations for effective evidence practice.
